My Story
My food and wine journey started in 2008 at one of the local Somerset West wine farms and restaurants where I was a waiter. I was introduced to a whole new world of food and wine for the first time in my life. Because of my interest in wine and food pairing, and apparent knack for it, I became the in house Sommelier at the restaurant. This included helping out at functions and in-home cooking services with the chef.
I entered Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Western Cape Regional Sommelier competition in 2008 and was rewarded the second prize. That marked the start of many more wine and food experiences to come.
Life takes you on many journeys, and it was only a few years later that Sommeliers Warehouse (Pty) Ltd was born. I started by creating wine pairings for Fine Dining restaurant’s menus and then sourcing and supplying those perfectly matched wines.
A few years later, I met Leani, my wife to be – who didn’t know much about wine at the time, and probably as a way to impress her family (in hindsight) I started sharing with them the different ways in which you can enjoy wine to enhance the flavours of food.
That is when Sommeliers Warehouse became a family business where Leani and I share a tasting experience with clients. Our entire business is founded on teaching and sharing the joy of wine and food with people. It doesn’t matter whether you are an expert wine lover, or whether you want to learn more about wines or whether you just want to enjoy the experience. It is all part of the wine journey and tasting experience.
